Our previous house was a historic 1929 bungalow. But the demo demon was just too strong and out comes the chopped off ceiling and side walls. The next step was removing the mantle which we thought was one solid piece of wood that did not sound or feel like wood when we touched it (so I don’t know why we assumed it was wood…).
Luckily there are small changes (like switching out light bulbs) and big changes (like installing a new fireplace mantel ) that can give your living room a new look and won’t turn into a major DIY project, or turn your home into a construction site. We topped the fireplace with a new piece of wood and added molding around the edges for a polished and finished look. A pair of 6 panel wood doors are cut to fit the new eave openings. Ann Sacks luxor grey” limestone tile and topo azul” slab and a wood mantel painted in a similar grey give the fireplace a subtle presence in the room, toned down from the stark white it was previously.

Because its a time when you can have the windows open on your home, and allow a nice evening breeze to come in while enjoying the heat off the fireplace you have lit up. This is one of my favorite things to do in my home because it gives an ambience of outdoors.
Now, it will be bricked almost to the ceiling with an arch above the fireplace. If you go with a traditional fireplace design then it is going to fit into almost any environment, but on ocassions you will need to do something a little bit more contemporary.
